Low sex desire ( low libido) is a problem common to females but when it comes to sex drive, there are no “normal” level. However, if you notice a significant drop from your normal levels of sexual ability or sexual desire than it may be because of the following reasons
1. Thyroid disease
Thyroid diseases are on the top of the list when it comes to low sex desire. Hypothyroidism, which is type of thyroid diseases, is the culprit in most cases. It is an underactive thyroid, which promotes sexual dysfunctions. Thyroid diseases cause a change of hormone in the body. When women suffer from thyroid diseases, a considerably less amount of lubrication is produced in the vaginal, which makes sexual intercourse painful.
Although this problem is less likely to be faced by men. It can however, cause problem such as premature or delayed ejaculation during intercourse.
Menopause is another big player in low sex desire. When women are going through menopause, the estrogen levels in the body decreases which causes dryness in vagina, night sweats and in some cases hot flashes from time to time. This can greatly undermine the sexual drive.
Testosterone decile also effects the body in the same way. Although testosterone levels eventually decrease as you grow old, however testosterone deficiency due to menopause can also reduce sex drive in both women and men.
3. Stress and Weakness
Getting worked up from stress and continues work can sometimes leads to low sex desire in both men and women. When get exhausted, it is natural to not engage in sexual intercourse even if you have the desire for it but in some cases, this fatigue can also lower libido levels in the body.
Stress is another factor that effects sexual desire. Under stress, the arteries of the body get narrower which causes the decrease in blood flow. This change in blood flow causes erectile dysfunction in men and low sexual desire in women.
4. Certain medications
Let us make one thing clear. Whenever you use pharmaceutical medications, you are exposing yourself to a number of side effects, which might not show at the time but indeed show up in the long run. This is the problem with all types of pharmaceutical medications. They only cure your temporarily.
Certain pharmaceutical medications have direct impact on sexual desire and for people taking several medication; this is indeed a very real threat. Medication such as birth control pills, antidepressants, anti-seizure medications and cardio-vascular medication have the highest chances to lower your sex drive. You can consult your doctor relating your problem. Some exercises are known to increase libido and should be following during taking of such medications.
