Neck supports a wide range of mobility and needs to remain in good health to support the movement and functioning of the body. Arthritis in the neck can lead to a lot of neck pain limiting the movement of your head in any direction. This leads to a lot of trouble in performing your daily life activities.
Arthritis in the neck joints, in turn, causes pinched nerves in the neck.Sharp and aching pain in neck, shoulder, and muscles surrounding that area. Headaches, numbness, the stiffness of the neck, difficulty in movement and swallowing are some other symptoms of arthritis in the neck.
Arthritis in the neck is not the only cause of neck pain, in fact, reasons such as neck injury, pinched nerves in the neck, spine infection, working at a desk for long hours, poor posture, jerk in the neck during exercise and un-natural sleeping position can also contribute towards neck pain.
In most cases neck pain is not a serious condition and can be cured by implementing simple home remedies:
1. Ice Pack
Ice packs are one the simplest remedy for almost all kinds of joint pain including the neck. The cold temperature of the ice pack controls the increase in pain while also reducing inflammation in the joint. A plastic bag with crushed ice works just as well as any other ice pack. Try not to use this remedy for more than 15 minutes at a time.
2. Hot and cold Therapy
Hot and cold therapy is another simple and effective remedy for neck pain. Heat helps to increase blood flow and reduce the stiffness of the joint while the cold helps to reduce inflammation and alleviation of pain. A simple way to implement hot and cold therapy is to take shower while switching from hot water to cold water. Target the neck for about 30 seconds before switching temperature of water. Repeat this process for as long as the pain receptors dial down.
3. Take Baths with Epsom salts
Epsom salts work as pain relievers reducing stress and muscle tension surrounding the neck. Epsom salts have a high concentration of magnesium sulfate which works as a natural muscle relaxant and help in reducing pain and swelling surround the neck joint. All you need to implement this remedy is to add one or two cups of Epsom salt in the bathtub. Make sure to soak the neck in the water for about 20 minutes. Repeat this remedy on a daily basis for the best result.
Bear in mind This remedy is not for people with diabetes, high blood pressures, and heart problems.
4. Neck Exercises
Exercise is one of the best remedies for arthritis in neck and neck pain. They increase movement of joint but try taking it slow as it hurts at first. There are a number of exercises that help increase the mobility of the neck joint. Exercises help strengthen muscles and bones while reducing stress from the body.
Apply a little heat to the neck joint before exercises to help it loosen up. In the beginning, they will cause pain but ultimately help your neck joint stronger.
5. Gold Oil
Gold oil is a very effective herbal oil for all types of joint pain including the neck. It is composed of all herbal ingredients without any chemical compounds. Herbal oils are still widely used in massage therapy. Lavender oil mixed with coconut or olive oil can also be used to target arthritis in the neck.
